The Monastery of Myrtiotissa from the 16th Century is built in a verdant landscape and near the see and attracts hudnreds of faithful and visitors. In the Monastery there is an icon of Theotokos Myrtiotissa, made with great technique and artistry, like many other icons of Ionian style that are located there. All the atmosphere here is amazing as the Monk Daniel is an amazing person having many domesticated animals arround as hunderts of cats, two clever a sweet dogs, peacocks, dugs and in the evening coming from the nature raccoons to have a dinner with the other animals 🙂 In the area of the Monastery there is also a restored oil mill and a place to sleep for the faithfuls.
According to a tradition, the name of the Monastery derives from the icon of Panagia (Virgin Mary) which was found in the cave in the same place where the monastery stays now.
